Swetes youth nurses minor wound after being shot by policeman during violent confrontation

The Police are reportedly investigating an incident in which a male civilian was shot by an officer.

Reports say the man is in stable condition at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre after being shot on Wednesday night, March 23.

Twenty-three-year-old Ajante Browne of Swetes was shot by the officer while the Police were responding to a report in the village.

Browne is said to be wanted in connection with several reports of threats and malicious damage.  At around 6:15 p.m., sources say, officers were called to a property in Swetes where he had been sighted.

When the Police arrived at the property, the young man allegedly became enraged and began advancing towards them, throwing stones and other missiles.

According to the officers, several attempts were made to bring the situation under control; however, Browne reportedly continued to threaten the lives of family members and the Police, while causing damage to several properties.

The Police say the situation then escalated to the point where Browne armed himself and was advancing towards them, at which point he was shot in the hand.

He was transported to the hospital for treatment, and a doctor reports that his condition is stable since his injury is not life-threatening.
