Simon says Gov’t needs to complete spectator stand or restore ‘destroyed’ Bolans Playing Field

As residents voice complaints and criticism about the current
condition of the Bolans Playing Field, the newly elected
parliamentary representative for the St. Mary’s South constituency
is appealing, again, for the issue to be addressed.

In a Facebook post, MP Kelvin “Shugy” Simon notes that urgent
solutions are needed to rectify the “destroyed” playing field.

Prior to this post, Derrick “Pretty Boy” Edwards, a former national
striker and a member of the Bolans Football Club, had appeared on a
radio programme complaining about its condition, as well.

Edwards noted that the field needs pressing action to rectify the
state it is in, since neither of the area’s two football clubs can
practice on it.

Ahead of the recent by-election in St. Mary’s South, the Browne
Administration had begun excavating an area of the field –
reportedly to erect a spectator stand. Further, the heavy trucks
crossing the facility reportedly have left deep ruts in the surface.

As a result of the recent heavy rains, the field has become almost
unusable, with portions of it resembling ponds with settled water.

This has also created concerns about the breeding of mosquitoes, as
the country grapples with an increase in cases of dengue fever.

During a recent celebration of his re-election victory, Simon
noted that, since the field has been dug up, constituents cannot use it
in the normal way for sporting and recreational activities.

Hence, he is assuring residents that he will be entreating the
authorities to complete the project or restore the playing field to its
former state.

Many persons already had predicted the Browne Administration
would abandon the constituency if the Labour Party did not win the
October 24 by-election. But Simon says he will continue to pressure
the Government to perform since the people of the constituency and
country deserve better.
