City South representatives deliver petition against Benjamin’s knighthood to chairman of honours committee

Representatives of the United Progressive Party’s City South Branch
today delivered a petition – signed by 80 constituents – to the Office
of the Governor-General.

The document, addressed to the chairperson of the National Awards
and Honours Committee, comprised a petition requesting that
Attorney-General Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin, representative for City
South, not be conferred with a knighthood.

Benjamin has been tipped to receive the Nation’s second-highest
honour during the November 1 Independence ceremonies.
However, constitutents say the award is undeserved and its
bestowal on Benjamin will serve only to cheapen the honour.
