Old Parham Road resident becomes second motorcycle fatality on Sir Sidney Walling Highway in just over a month

Troy Strunkey, 53, of Old Parham Road, has become the country’s
latest road fatality, following yet another motorcycle accident.

The Police say they are continuing investigations into the fatal
incident on Sir Sydney Walling Highway, which occurred at
about 10:23 p.m. on Sunday night, October 15.

Reports say that Strunkey was travelling from east to west along the
popular highway when he lost control of his motorcycle and collided
with a light pole on the northern side of the road.

Strunkey, the only person on the cycle, was rushed to the Sir Lester
Bird Medical Centre, where he reportedly was pronounced dead just
over a half hour later, at 10:56 p.m.

This is the third road accident involving a motorcycle rider for the
year and the second in just over a month.

Police Constable Robert Dyer, Jr. died in an accident on the morning
of September 4, after colliding with a jeep on the same highway. The
39 year-old had been attached to the Traffic Department.

Reports are that he collided head-on with the jeep, which had been
traveling in the opposite direction, and sustained multiple serious
injuries.

The driver of that vehicle, Dayneri Ferrer Vincent-Urlwin of Lunar
Park, was charged with dangerous driving and made her first
appearance in the St. John’s Traffic Court, last week, before Acting
Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason.

She was granted bail in the sum of $50,000 with an $8,000 cash
deposit and two sureties. Additionally, the defendant had to
surrender her travel documents, and must report to the Parham
Police Station three days a week.

The matter is scheduled for committal on January 15, 2024.
