Community Development Division raises more than $2k to help young burn victim continue treatment

A young burn victim has been gifted the sum of over $2,000 to assist
with his continued medical treatment.

The donation was made by the Community Development and
Citizens’ Engagement Division, which handed over a cheque for
$2,373 to the family of seven-year-old burn victim T’rique Jeffrey of
Swetes Village.

The Division says the monies were
raised at a barbecue it held on Friday, July 7.

For this success, it extends gratitude to its many corporate sponsors,
who helped to make the fundraiser a reality.
Jeffery suffered serious burns to 52 percent of his body in an
accident at home in May this year.

He had to be airlifted to the Dominican Republic, where he
continues to receive treatment through the financial assistance of
the Calvin Ayre Foundation (CAF).

Present at the handing-over ceremony were Colin O’Keiffe,
permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health, Wellness, Social
Transformation and the Environment; Dale O’Brien, director of
Community Development and Citizens’ Engagement Division; and
the staff of the South Zone Team within the Department.
