REOPENING OF GYMS UNDER CONSIDERATION, BUT BARS WILL HAVE LONGER WAIT BECAUSE OF SOCIAL- DISTANCE RESTRICTIONS

Bars and gymnasiums will remain closed despite the easing of restrictions and reduction of curfew hours.

However, the re-opening of gyms will be considered next week, following discussions with Ministry of Health and Ministry of Sports officials, says Information Minister Melford Nicholas.

Nicholas claims that gyms pose a high risk of spreading the coronavirus, and says this was the case in at least one facility in the past. Therefore, he says, officials have to proceed with caution in allowing them to reopen.

Meanwhile, he says that bars pose an even greater risk for the spread of the virus since many people fail to social distance in these establishments.

Therefore, it will be quite some time before these establishments are given permission to reopen.
