Port Authority accident victim remains sedated after emergency surgery, having sustained orthopaedic injuries

The 58-year-old man who was injured in a freak accident at the
Antigua Port Authority on Monday afternoon, July 17, remains in
critical condition at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.

The victim, who has been identified as Denroy Harrigan, is said to be
employed with Carib Seas, a shipping company.

He reportedly underwent emergency surgery on Monday night and
has been placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), on a ventilator to
help with his breathing.

Harrigan was injured as he reportedly was dealing with a container.
Reports say he was crushed between a truck and the metal structure
when the driver of the vehicle reversed into him – allegedly because
he had not seen him.

As a result of the incident, Harrigan reportedly suffered a broken hip
and other orthopaedic injuries, including to his pelvis, and sources
say he is sedated and unconscious.

In relation to the accident, Darwin Telemaque, the Port’s manager,
was due to meet with the shipping company on Tuesday, July 19.
However, the outcome of that meeting was not immediately known.
An investigation is expected to be launched into the matter.
