Ministry of Works maintains contact with burned employee and his family and is monitoring his progress, reports say

The Ministry of Works is expressing concern about the well-being
of the employee who was badly injured during a recent accident at
the Burma Quarry.

One of the workers at the Quarry, Gregson Joseph, suffered burn
injuries on June 26 as a result of an explosion.

The Ministry has described Joseph as a loyal employee about whom
it is sincerely concerned as he is being treated at the Sir Lester Bird
Medical Centre.

The Ministry says it maintains communication with Joseph and has
also been in contact with his immediate family members in the
United States and Belize – the last such interaction being as recent
as July 5.

At that time, the family reportedly was apprised of Joseph’s medical
status.

In addition, family members have been in direct contact with the
hospital’s medical director, Dr. Albert Duncan, and reportedly have
indicated their satisfaction with the information shared to date.
According to the medical director, Joseph’s recovery has been very
positive.

The Government, meanwhile, says it remains committed to ensuring
that he receives the treatment needed for recovery and is
monitoring his progress.

Joseph will likely be hospitalized for a significant period, the Cabinet
said last week.

The Ministry of Works has pledged to assist in meeting his medical
expenses, while the Ministry of Health had indicated that it will
provide Emergency Medical Services onsite whenever blasts are
planned at the quarry in the future.
