Cabinet confirms that quarry worker was seriously injured on the job; Ministry of Works to help meet his medical expenses

The Burma Quarry worker who was badly burned on the job
reportedly is still recovering and his hospital stay is expected to be a
lengthy one.

REAL News reported on the incident on Tuesday, June 27, although
details about how it happened and what caused the incident were
sketchy.

While those details were withheld in Thursday’s Cabinet Notes, the
Executive says it received a report on the man’s condition during its
June 28 meeting, and it confirmed that he is likely be hospitalized
for a while.

However, the Notes say, the Ministry of Works will assist the
employee in meeting his medical expenses.

Earlier reports had said the man was injured during a discharge of
the dynamite used to blast rocks at the Piggots Quarry. This
allegation has not been denied or confirmed, to date.

However, the Cabinet says it has “received the assurances from the
Ministry of Health that it will provide Emergency Medical Services
(EMS) on site whenever blasts are planned in the future.”
