Sports league will host interactive forum to address youth violence; experts to present and answer audience questions

A local sports group is taking a proactive step to address the issue of violence among youth, a trend that has become increasingly prevalent in recent weeks.

The Mandy Premier League (MPL) will be hosting a forum dubbed an “Eye on the Issues: Youth and Violence,” on Tuesday, March 21, at 7 p.m., at the National Public Library.

President Mandy Weatherhead says there has been too much talk already about the matter – including from the Attorney-General, who has said it will be taken before the Parliament.

Weatherhead says his aim, and that of the forum’s panelists, is to tackle the matter now – and to find a solution sooner rather than later – since anything can happen before the Government acts.

The MPL president says the panelists will include Pastor Olson Daniel; High Priest Isaac; attorney-at-law Saska Diamond; education officer Joy-Ann Harrigan; Police Inspector Claudina Morgan; Ottos Comprehensive School Principal Foster Roberts; and a group of youth.

Weatherhead is encouraging the public to attend and participate in this worthwhile forum – especially parents with their children.  However, the event will be streamed live for those who are unable to be physically present, and questions will be taken from the audience.

The initiative by this sports group follows a spate of violent incidents involving young people, including students.
