APUA workers dissatisfied with proposed pay raise down tools on Wednesday to take grievance to the Antigua Workers’ Union

A convoy of workers from the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) downed tools on Wednesday morning, September 7, and journeyed to the lower Newgate Street headquarters of their bargaining agent, the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU).

The workers, who appeared to be from the Water, Electricity and Telecoms Business Units, reportedly are unhappy with a proposed salary increase.

REAL News correspondent George Wehner says the city was abuzz with activity as the workers congregated at Freedom Hall.  

Wehner, who files this report, says the shop stewards were locked in negotiations with union officials regarding a recommended pay increase of 3%.
