Supplementary List of voters and ‘List C’ names of the deceased will be published on ABEC website monthly, starting with July

As part of its ongoing public-education programme, the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) will be publishing the Supplementary List of voters and its “List C” electronically on a monthly basis.

At present, ABEC says, the documents for the month of July are available on the Commission’s website: www.abec.gov.ag.

According to the Representation of the People (Amendment) Act 2002, “The Commission shall publish the supplementary list of electors registered … monthly and shall cause [it] to be prepared and published as soon as possible thereafter … not later than the 15th day of the following month.”

The Supplementary List facilitates the process of claims and objections for first-time applicants, explains Elisa Graham, ABEC’S Public Relations Officer.

However, as provided in Section 8 (2) of the legislation, List C is a compilation, prepared by the Registration Officer, “of persons who have ceased to be qualified as electors or whose qualifications have been altered… .”

This means that persons whose names appear on the current register, but who are deceased, plus applicants for transfers will appear on this list.

Meanwhile, Graham is encouraging residents to utilize ABEC’s website to access pertinent information, including the functions and operations of ABEC; the procedures involved in registration and electoral processes; and the locations of the Registration Units.
