Wehner raises questions about structural integrity of Sir Novelle Richards Academy and Tabor calls for safety assessment
The Sir Novelle Richards Academy, located at Tomlinsons, is showing evidence of structural failure and poor workmanship, according to a video put out by REAL News correspondent George Wehner.
Wehner’s latest expose shows deep fractures running up the walls and along the load-bearing columns, as well.
The education facility was constructed in eight weeks – just ahead of the 2018 elections – under the leadership of former Minister of Education Michael Browne and began with only first-form classrooms.
Wehner reports on what he observed at the newest secondary institution.
Wehner is also asking who approved the work undertaken at the school and whether MP Browne is pleased with the current situation, where the school’s structural integrity appears to be compromised.
He is expressing concern for the students’ safety ahead of the 2022-23 academic year.
Meanwhile, Senator Damani Tabor says he, too, is alarmed at the condition of the new school.
He is calling on the relevant authorities to assess the integrity of the structure before a disaster happens – given that Antigua and Barbuda has been experiencing more frequent earthquakes recently.
