Finalists in Party Monarch competitions are named, as Carnival gets ready for kick-off this Saturday with T-Shirt Mas’

The names of the finalists competing in this year’s Party Monarch Competition have been released.

They are: Naycha Kid, Island Prince, Claudette “CP” Peters, Ge’Eve, Tian Winter, Blade, Drastic, and Royalty, who will all compete in the Groovy Segment.

The soca artistes who have qualified for the Jumpy Segment of the competition are: Island Prince, Zamoni, Romel, Menace XL, King Vicious, Ge’Eve, Lyricsman, and Tian Winter.

Eight artistes will be competing in each segment on competition night, slated for Saturday, July 30 at Carnival City.

The reigning Groovy Monarch is Menace XL while Low Rider, who swept the country with his “Fish Dance” in 2019, is the reigning Jumpy Monarch. However, he will not be competing this year.

After a two-year hiatus, Carnival this year will be celebrated under the theme “Reigniting the Spirit.”

Meanwhile, the first event to kick off the annual celebrations will be held this Saturday, July 23.

T-Shirt Mas’ will see the participation of several troupes, with hundreds of people adorned in T-shirts – many of which will be altered to show creative designs as they wend their way through the city.

However, the official opening of Carnival is slated for Wednesday, July 27. The Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show will be held that evening and is the only pageant being featured this year.
