Joyce faces charge of attempted murder after alleged attack on wife’s relatives and will appear in Magistrates Court today

The Villa man who attacked his estranged wife’s relatives, landing them in the hospital, has been arrested and charged.

Shajah Joyce, 26, faces a charge of attempted murder and will make his first court appearance in the St. John’s Magistrates Court today, Monday, July 18.

The Police are alleging that he attempted to kill several members of a household at Fort Road, last Thursday, July 14.

Joyce allegedly armed himself with what is believed to be a knife; went to the house where his wife is staying with relatives; and, during an altercation, used the weapon to inflict multiple stab wounds to her sister and stepfather when they intervened.

The incident is said to have taken place at about 2:15 a.m. on Thursday, after which Joyce went on the run.

An appeal was made by the Police for Joyce to turn himself in at the nearest police station – which he did later that night.

Joyce will likely be remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison today, since a magistrate has no jurisdiction to grant bail for offences of this nature.
