Two of three men charged for possession of contraband items are remanded, while youngest defendant is released on bail

Two of the three men charged for contraband items, including an imitation firearm, found at their Christian Valley home have been remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

Derrick George, Huganjah George and Hojah George were among six persons taken into custody on Sunday, May 22, after officers from the Criminal Investigations Department and the K-9 Unit executed a search warrant at their home.

However, following investigations, the other persons were released, and the three defendants were arrested and jointly charged. 

Huganjah, 27, and 58-year-old Derrick are both charged for the unlawful possession of one blue ballistic vest; possession of an unlicensed firearm – a makeshift Uzi; and possession of ammunition: two 5.56 mm spent shells and one 9 mm spent shell.

On the other hand, 25-year-old Hojah and Derrick are jointly charged for possession of another ballistic vest.

They appeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel-Edwards in the All Saints Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 24, and Derrick and Huganjah were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

Hojah was granted bail and released on bond in the sum of $4,000, with a cash component of $1,500.

The matter has been adjourned to September 22.
