Watts recommends shift system for ABEC registration units so that no one is disenfranchised from voting process

Algernon “Serpent” Watts is suggesting that a shift system be put in place at the Electoral Commission’s registration units, since some residents are unable to do business within the standard hours of operation.

Watts, the United Progressive Party (UPP) Candidate for St. George, says many people have complained that they are unable to get registered or transferred because of the units’ operating hours and their work obligations.

Watts says that a source from the Antigua and Electoral Commission (ABEC) has indicated that extending the operating hours for the units would be too costly.

However, he says the essential thing is that ABEC should make it easy for people to get registered.

The St. George Candidate says that systems must be put in place to ensure that no one who is eligible to vote is disenfranchised from taking part in the process.
