UPP Political Leader says democracy should be defined to suit the local context

United Progressive Party (UPP) Political Leader Harold Lovell believes the time has come to broaden our understanding of democracy.

Lovell, a lawyer by profession, says that Antigua and Barbuda, like many other Caribbean countries, needs to look seriously at how democracy is defined.

Lovell, considered a seasoned politician by fans and foes, says there are too many anomalies that confuse the people.

One anomaly he cites is that the head of the Upper House, the Senate, is selected by the head of the Lower House, the Prime Minister.

Accordingly, the UPP Political Leader says we should look at our own reality here in Antigua and Barbuda, and other aspects of our Constitution in terms of broadening the democracy.
