Money woes affecting the printing of cards for Social Security beneficiaries

Social Security Scheme is not in a position to produce any identification cards to new registrants or to beneficiaries who are seeking a replacement.

Real News understands that the machine has been out of commission for several months.

The United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate for St. Phillip’s North, Alex Browne confirms the report as he has been assisting someone in trying to get the card, but being told that the machine is not working.

Efforts by Real News to get some information as to why the machine is down and when it will be repaired or replaced have proven futile.

The Social Security Scheme has been plagued with a number of financial issues, stemming from non-payment or late payments of contributions, among others.

It was last week Tuesday (November 30) that pensioners picketed its offices over the continued late payments of pensions.

Persons also complain about being unable to uplift their birth paper from the Civil Registry. The reason for this is unclear.

And no registration has taken place in Barbuda so registrants cannot obtain their voter identification cards. This however, is due to the lack of internet services and not with the card machine.
