ABST-reduction days will run singly over two weekends, but hours clash with curfew, resident points out

The Inland Revenue Department has announced the official days for the annual reduction in the  Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax (ABST).

This year, they will run for two consecutive weekends, although for only 24 hours.

The reduction period commences on Friday, December 10, at midnight and runs until Saturday, December 11, at 11:59 p.m.

The following week, it starts at midnight  on Friday, December 17, and concludes on Saturday, December 18, at 11:59 p.m.

One resident is asking why the ABST reduction commences at 12 a.m.,  when no shops or stores are open, and ends after the curfew would have started.

The Cabinet has agreed to reduce the standard 15 percent rate of the ABST to 5 percent, and,

according to the Inland Revenue Department, store participation is voluntary.
