Police officers put on longer hours with reduced benefits from today, but one says the authorities are in for a rude awakening

Police officers are expected to put in longer work hours from today, October 4, even as they are reportedly losing certain medical benefits.

In a communiqué to the rank and file of the Police Force last week, the top brass reportedly outlined the new hours of work.

Algernon “Serpent” Watts, the United Progressive Party (UPP) Candidate for St. George, brought the issue to light on his radio programme on the weekend.

Meanwhile, a source tells REAL News that officers will not be accepting these new working hours.  In fact, she says, the authorities are in for a rude awakening.

The officer says the rank and file are not waiting on the Police Welfare Association to act, but will do what they have to do.

How can officers perform their duties effectively when they lack proper sleep, and will not even have the benefit of free health care if they are to fall sick, she asks.

She concludes that the authorities want police officers to work like machines or animals.
