FAMILY LAUNCHES GOFUNDME APPEAL TO HELP PAY LEGAL FEES FOR KENDRA BEAZER

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay legal fees for Barbuda Council Member Kendra Beazer, who was arrested in the United States and is awaiting trial.

Beazer’s family has turned to the public in an effort to raise 15,000 pounds to help offset his expenses.

Family members are of the opinion that Beazer, who recently was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship, was “wrongfully arrested” while apparently suffering a mental breakdown.

His relatives are also alleging that Beazer, 28, was transported from the scene in an unconscious state to an area hospital.

They note that, during that time and up to his first court appearance, Beazer had not been given the opportunity to speak with his family.

Prior to his suspected breakdown, Beazer reportedly had sought help on two prior occasions, a family member says.

Relatives are hopeful that the young man will be able to get much-needed assistance for his mental-health issues, get justice in the courts, and return to his studies.

Beazer is pursuing a master’s degree in environmental policy at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.

He was involved in an incident on Sunday, March 7, in which he is alleged to have beaten and assaulted four police officers. Reports are that he was “acting irrationally” and was being taken for a mental-health assessment at the time of the altercation.

Beazer appeared before a District Judge – unrepresented – on Monday, March 8 ,when he was arraigned, and his preliminary hearing is set for today, March 22.

He faces charges of simple assault, harassment, resisting arrest, flight to avoid apprehension, disarming a law-enforcement officer, and aggravated assault.
