CONSTRUCTION OF NEW ROUNDABOUT AT MOUNT JOY BEGINS TODAY

A new roundabout is being constructed in the vicinity of the Mount Joy Service Station on the Sir Sydney Walling Highway, and COWCL, the contracting firm undertaking the project, is expected to have itasphalted by tomorrow, March 19.

Work is expected to begin today, March 18, with placement of base material.  Officials say the flow of traffic in that area will  be affected periodically, as single-lane traffic on one side of the roundabout will be controlled by flag persons during the day.

Residents in nearby communities have been complaining about the dust emanating from the road and the length of time it is taking to complete the work.

One resident says that Public Works should have repaired the roadway in stages – completing the area fronting the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds before extending the work onto the Pares Main Road.

The road surface was graded since last year, but not asphalted, forcing motorists to divert through Parham Town, only to emerge onto another stretch of rugged and unfinished roadway.
