road block protest at public works

Dissatisfied employees at the Ministry of Works staged major industrial action on Tuesday, blocking the main roadway directly outside the ministry headquarters to protest months of outstanding wages.

The demonstration, which brought local traffic to a standstill, saw workers use heavy-duty ministry trucks to barricade the street, effectively restricting all vehicle access to the compound.

The protest was confirmed on-site by George Wehner, who captured video footage of the scene. The visual showed dozens of ministry employees gathering outside the gates as the gridlock forced local motorists to seek alternative routes.

According to sources and public comments surrounding the demonstration, the financial strain on the workers has reached a boiling point. Some employees allege that while back pay sheets have already been processed and sent to the Treasury, the actual funds have not been disbursed—leaving some without their back pay for nearly four months.

"Workers deserve their pay," one observer noted, echoing the frustration of many on the ground who feel that public sector employees are bearing the brunt of delayed government disbursements.

Later the same morning the management at the ministry of works met with the employees who took industrial action and promised the outstanding payments would be settled. It remains unclear whether any deadlines for the settlement of all outstanding moneys owed were given by the management at the ministry of works to resolve the impasse to get the workers back on the job.
