Tuesday-night traffic accident claims young man’s life and follows serious incident on Monday morning

The family of a 25-year-old man is now in mourning after he succumbed to injuries sustained in a vehicular accident on Tuesday night, February 15, shortly after 11 p.m.

He has become the country’s third road fatality for 2022.

Reports are that the young man was driving a Toyota Vitz, from north to south on the Sir George Walter Highway, when he lost control of the car and ran off the road.

He is reported to have collided with a utility pole and sustained very serious injuries.

The youth was rushed to the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre by the Emergency Medical Services, but was later pronounced dead.

This incident follows a major accident on Monday morning, on the Valley Road, that has left a toddler in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital and the mother and another sibling nursing injuries.

The Police say their initial investigations reveal that speeding was a factor in that accident.

The Traffic Department Head is therefore appealing to motorists to be vigilant on the roadways; to exercise extreme caution while driving; and to abide by the speed limits to prevent accidents and loss of life.
