Police prosecutor reportedly transferred following violent terms at Rise fete

Following a widely criticized incident at the “Rise” fete during the recent
Carnival celebrations, the Police Service Commission (PSC) reportedly has
condemned the actions of Inspector Dane Bontiff and he has been transferred
from his position as head of the Police Prosecutions Department.

In a video that quickly went viral, Bontiff is seen physically and violently
handling a female reveler believed to be under the influence of alcohol.
He pitches the woman to the ground, dangerously close to what appears to be
a concrete kerb, before his subordinates and a civilian intervene, preventing
further harm to the fete patron.

The public reacted with outrage, with many residents and members of the
Diaspora calling for an investigation and for the inspector to be terminated.
Accordingly, the PSC responded swiftly:

Bontiff reportedly will be transferred as of Thursday, August 22, and replaced
by Assistant Superintendent of Police Jeffery Morgan, who heads the Force’s
Statistics Division and holds a degree in law.

The sources say that Bontiff had succeeded Morgan at the Prosecution
Department.
