UPP expresses disappointment over Government’s broken promises to repair and upgrade infrastructure

With the Small Island Developing States (SIDS4) conference merely three days
away, and as delegates already have begun to arrive on island, the United
Progressive Party (UPP) is not pleased with the Government’s overall
preparations for the event.

The Party is speaking specifically to the country’s infrastructure, especially
the roads, which are in a deplorable condition.

Promises to fix the roads ahead of the international event have not
materialized, and now only those roads closest to the venue have been given
attention.

The SIDS4 conference will be held at the American University of Antigua’s
recently constructed conference centre in the Jabberwock/Coolidge area.

Damani Tabor, the UPP’s public relations officer, says the Gaston Browne
Administration’s management is a disappointment, having missed many of its
targets.

Unfortunately, Tabor says, the Administration has not put the country on
show in a way that could make citizens and residents proud of its efforts.

He points to the condition of the roads, noting that the promise of an
expansive programme to ensure the infrastructure was upgraded has not
been kept.

Meanwhile, Tabor says that many positives could be derived from this
conference and could benefit the country tremendously.

Looking forward, after the conference, the UPP officer says that promises
made by Minister of Works Maria Browne to tackle other roads, especially
those in the communities, ought to be honoured.

Meanwhile, Tabor could not confirm whether the Opposition is playing any
role in the upcoming conference.

He says, though, that it would make perfect sense to have the two major
political parties at the table to discuss issues that affect the Nation and the
regional community.
