Symister advises residents to keep an eye on parking lot, which could become another self-enrichment scheme

Leon Chaku Symister, the United Progressive Party (UPP)
spokesperson on legal matters, wants to know whether the
Government will still own the Friars Hill Road parking lot that was
constructed with taxpayers’ money once it is no longer in use by the
Ministry of Works.

The parking lot to which he refers is adjacent to two buildings
owned by Gaston Andron Browne III, which are being rented by
three government offices and used by the workers.

While the prime minister keeps emphasizing that the lot is owned
by the Crown, Symister says he is curious to know what will become
of the space once the Ministry is no longer renting the premises –
and whether the lot will automatically remain with the buildings.

Unofficial reports claim the Browne Administration spent $150,000
to create the parking lot.

Symister advises residents to keep their eye on this issue, since it
may turn out to be another self-enrichment scheme for government
officials and their relatives.

He is concerned that the parking lot could be sold at a peppercorn
price or probably given away in some exchange deal.
The UPP officer wants to know for how much longer the people of
Antigua and Barbuda will sit back and allow this type of nepotism to
consume their patrimony.

That was Leon Chaku Symister, the United Progressive Party
spokesperson on legal matters.
