Verdict is manslaughter, not murder, in 7-2 jury decision; Kelly Friday to be sentenced April 19

Kelly Friday has been acquitted of the murder of his uncle, Selwyn
Mannix, but found guilty of manslaughter, instead.

The verdict was returned by the nine-member jury after
deliberations that lasted over five hours.

However, the verdict was not a unanimous decision: rather, a
majority verdict of seven to two.

Sentencing of the young man  is set for April 19.

Friday now stands convicted for the fatal stabbing of Mannix in
September 2022, during an altercation at the Point Fisheries, which
allegedly arose out of a debt of $50 for fish the nephew had credited.
