Police seize nearly $250k worth of marijuana at port – again without waiting for shipment to be claimed

Almost a quarter of a million dollars’ worth of cannabis was seized
during a drug-interdiction exercise at the Deep Water Harbour on
March 7 at about 12:30 p.m.

Reports say that officers from the Narcotics Department, along with
the Customs Task Force, went on duty at the cargo shed for the joint
operation.

During the exercise, two cardboard boxes were searched and
several vacuumed-sealed packages were found, each containing
marijuana.

The illegal substance – 41 pounds contained in 41 packages – carries
an estimated street value of $246,000.

The drug was seized and taken to Police Headquarters for further
investigation purposes.

During two recent town-hall meetings at which officers served on
panels, audience members asked why the Police continue to
impound these drug shipments instead of setting up sting
operations to nab the persons importing them.

On both occasions, the officers –including a police prosecutor –
could offer no acceptable explanation.

This led one participant to declare publicly that the Police “done
know who the drugs belong to.”
