Integrated Health Outreach will stage city walk against gender- based violence, this Saturday, to observe IWD

In recognition of International’s Women’s Day (IWD), which will be
observed on March 8, the Integrated Health Outreach will be hosting
a walk through the streets of St. John’s this coming Saturday, March
9.

Integrated Health Outreach is a registered not-for-profit
organization that is dedicated to well-being across all platforms, and
to addressing challenges occurring within the society, says
executive director Dr. Nicola Bird.

Bird says this weekend’s event is being held under the theme “Men
and Women United – Stop Gender-based Violence.”
It is targeting everyone, not only women, she says, although it is
being held to commemorate International’s Women’s Day.

Dr. Bird notes that everyone needs to be involved in events like
these, as violence impacts the whole society and no one is exempt.

Further, she says that gender-based violence does carry an
economic impact, since those affected may be unable to work as a
result.

This event is not being staged only in Antigua, as Barbuda, too, will
host an event on March 16.

The later event is supposed to be a five-kilometre walk, starting and
ending at the Botanical Gardens, where there will be live
performances from local artistes, including Claudette Peters.

That was Dr. Nicola Bird, executive director of Integrated Health
Outreach.

The walk commences at 3 p.m. Those registering to participate will
receive what is being dubbed a “swag bag” along with a T-shirt.
Distribution commenced on Monday, March 4, and will run until
Friday, March 8.
