Source alleges magistrate is orchestrating removal of female prosecutor for unknown reason

It is alleged that efforts are being made by a particular magistrate
to have a police prosecutor removed from the St. John’s
Magistrates Court.

According to a source, the judicial officer in question reported the
female prosecutor to the Police Service Commission (PSC),
which, reportedly, has no authority over the police prosecution
department.

The source alleges that the complaint lodged with the PSC is that
the female officer is creating confusion at the Court and that all
the magistrates will be taking action if she is not removed.

But the source notes that going to the PSC was a waste of time,
since the officer falls under the authority of the Director of Public
Prosecutions (DPP).

What he found strange, the source says, is that the magistrate
called a member of the PSC to lodge the complaint – instead of
writing to the Police Commissioner requesting that the said officer
be transferred.

Another odd thing, he adds, is that the prosecutor in question has
never worked with that particular magistrate.

In fact, she is the most experienced prosecutor attached to the
court – other than the head of the prosecution department – and
now works with two different magistrates, the insider reports.

After she completes her cases before one magistrate, she goes
before another, and this is her daily routine, the source claims.

It is alleged that some of the other magistrates expressed shock
at the report against the prosecutor and have denied that they
were willing and ready to take action against her.

The source says the motive of the complaining magistrate is not
clear. But it is alleged that persons who worked closely with
former Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh have been targeted and
allegedly victimized.
