Awards to Progressive FM and the People’s Cooperative Credit Union Ltd. engender blue pride

The United Progressive Party (UPP) is celebrating the recognition of
two of its “arms” – Progressive 107.3 FM and the People’s
Cooperative Credit Union Ltd. – at events staged last weekend.
In two separate award ceremonies held on Saturday evening,
November 4, each entity was recognized for its contributions to its
industry.

The radio station, managed by William “Zizi” Thomas, took home
awards in three categories: Best Radio Sports Programme –
“Progressive Sports,” hosted by Mandy Weatherhead, Denmore
Roberts, and Kenneth Benjamin; Best Radio Show News/Current

Affairs – “Eye on The Issues,” hosted by D.Gisele Isaac; and Best
News Media.

The honours were conferred by the Antigua and Barbuda Gospel
and Media Awards (ABGMA) and determined by votes from the
public after nominations were opened in September.

Meanwhile, the credit union, under the management of Dr. George
Daniel and his team, received the “Rising Star Award 2023” from the
Antigua and Barbuda Cooperative League Ltd.

Former Political Leader Harold Lovell, during whose tenure both
entities came into being, tells REAL News he is extremely proud of
these achievements and salutes those who worked to make them
happen.

“I’m grateful for the hard work and commitment of the staff in the
face of the challenges we have faced,” he says.

“Both entities were born and nurtured in times of economic and
other hardships, including the COVID-19 pandemic, and both have
survived and excelled in spite of them.

“That’s quite an accomplishment in a period when so many
businesses have gone under,” Lovell continues. “So it speaks to the
tremendous goodwill of our supporters and friends – to whom our
Party remains grateful.”
