Progressive FM to host Moonlight Walk fundraiser on Sunday night; Zizi tells radio audience ‘you haffu come, Man!’
In what the organizers hope will become an annual event, Progressive FM will host a “Moonlight Walk” on Sunday night, June 4, to raise funds for the station.
The theme, “$30 for 30,” is in keeping with the United Progressive Party’s acknowledgement of its 30th anniversary, which was celebrated in April.
Station Manager William “Zizi” Thomas says plans have been shaping up nicely, and he is looking forward to a good turnout from the station’s listeners – especially those who make up his Bush Tea & Power Hour audience.
The Walk is scheduled to start off promptly at 7 p.m. However, for persons who have not gotten their tickets in advance, on-site registration will open at 6 p.m. at the Rising Sun Grounds, where the event will begin and end.
To keep the walkers safe on the road, the procession will be accompanied by a contingent of police officers from the Traffic Department.
And to keep the occasion festive, Zizi says, there will be a music truck to accompany the walkers. Participants are reminded that the event is not a race, and they are encouraged to “just slow down and enjoy the company and the moonlight.”
Meanwhile, Zizi advises that non-walkers are welcome to patronize the event, since there will be music and food on sale at the Grounds while the Walk is in progress.
“So you can bring out the elders, the grandparents, and those who can’t manage the walk, because we’re making provision for them to enjoy the lime, too,” Thomas says. “So bring ebrybady!”
At the end of the Walk, there will be live entertainment on the Grounds, as participants refresh themselves and grab a snack – which, organizers say, will include spicy pork and chicken sandwiches and local drinks.
The ticket-drawing will take place at that time, as well, with 30 prizes up for grabs. The organizers say the gifts are all useful items, including foodstuff; hurricane-preparedness items; gas vouchers; concert tickets; and a full medical check-up.
Persons who wish to support the walk may do so for a registration fee of $10; however, they will not be eligible to participate in the prize-drawing.
The organizers are expressing their gratitude to all the generous donor and everyone assisting to make the event both enjoyable and financially successful.
