PAHO to scale up and integrate testing of women for HPV in 10 local clinics, Ministry of Health reports
Ministry of Health officials are hailing a programme developed by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to bring about greater awareness and address the issue of human papilloma virus (HPV).
Reports say that a six-month programme developed by PAHO was undertaken and successfully completed long before the end of that period. During this time, many women took part in the initiative, which, the Ministry says, went beyond its expectations.
As a result, PAHO is moving to scale-up and integrate HPV testing in 10 clinics across the country.
Health officials say that HPV can cause cervical cancer, which can be fatal; however, they claim the HPV vaccine can prevent the virus from spreading and harming women.
