Hashish washed up on Barbuda beach is valued at over a half-million dollars, while cannabis find has street value of $30k

In a matter of 24 hours, the Police were able to seize over a half-million dollars’ worth of drugs in two separate instances on Wednesday, February 1.

The first incident was the discovery, by private citizens, of several packages of hashish, which had floated ashore on a Barbuda beach.

The police stationed on the sister-island were notified and the illegal substance handed over.  They report that the substance weighs 77 pounds and carries an estimated street value $523,899.

Following that seizure, the Police and Customs Department conducted a joint operation at the Airport Cargo Shed and found five packages containing five pounds of cannabis.

The illegal substance reportedly was concealed in a cardboard box and has an estimated street value of $30,000.

The Police are continuing investigations into both incidents.
