Malicious damage perpetrated on four owners who discover their vehicle’s glass smashed and interiors ransacked

A spate of vehicle break-ins is causing concern, as the Police are investigating four separate counts of malicious damage.

In one instance, a Freemans Village man reported to the Criminal Investigations Department that an unknown person had damaged his white Honda motorcar. Responding officers noted that a hard object had been used to break a portion of the car’s rear windscreen.

A Fort Road woman also fell victim to this offense, when some unknown person similarly broke the rear glass of her grey Nissan Frontier M/Pickup during the early hours of July 14.

The said vehicle had been parked at her business place when it was broken into and the interior ransacked. However, nothing was reported stolen.

In the third incident, a villager reported to the All Saints Police Station that the left rear quarter-glass of his black Honda CRV had been broken between 9:30 p.m. on July 13 and 5 a.m. the next day.

A hard object had been used to break the glass, and a hand apparently had been inserted to unlock the left rear door. The jeep was ransacked, but nothing was taken.

Another All Saints resident informed the station that his white Toyota Axio motorcar had been damaged and entered in the very same way, sometime between 10:45 p.m. on Wednesday night and just before 7 a.m. on Thursday. Once again, the perpetrator took nothing from the vehicle.

Damage to the respective vehicles reportedly is still being assessed.

Such malicious damage and break-ins tend to be very common around festival times, but are usually perpetrated in and around St. John’s. Quite a number of these were alleged to have taken place during a fete held two weekends ago, while several vehicles also lost their tyres to thieves.
