Antigua and Barbuda under high-surf advisory from Sunday night until Tuesday morning, Destin warns

Antigua and Barbuda has been placed under a high surf advisory for two days which commenced on Sunday night (January 29) about 8pm.

Meteorologist Dale Destin says that advisory also goes into effect for Anguilla and the British Virgin Islands.

Destin says that reefs and exposed northern and eastern coastlines with relatively shallow, gently to moderately sloping, nearshore areas will be impacted.

The advisory will remain in place until Tuesday morning, January 31, and during this time there will be moderate long-period swells reaching the area and affecting mainly the northern and eastern coastlines.

Destin says that the threat level to life, livelihood, property and infrastructure of those using the affected coastlines is moderate to high with the potential for significant impacts.

He warns that these swells could cause life-threatening surfs and rip currents.
