Marijuana valued at more than a quarter of a million dollars, guns and ammunition are found in two shipments at seaport

The Police are investigating the discovery of a quantity of ammunition, guns and drugs at the country’s main cargo port.

The Police and Customs Department conducted a joint operation at the Deep Water Harbour on Tuesday, November 29, and discovered the illegal items concealed inside two separate shipments.

A total of 140 rounds of ammunition; three firearms; and 37 pounds of cannabis were seized during the operation.

The Police say that one barrel contained two 9 mm pistols and 114 rounds of matching ammunition; a .380 pistol with five rounds of corresponding ammunition; a .22 pistol with 22 rounds of matching ammunition; and 17 vacuum-sealed packages of the controlled drug cannabis, weighing 17 pounds.

Another barrel, according to the Police, contained 20 pounds of cannabis in vacuum-sealed packages.

The illegal substance carries a combined street value of EC$262,000.

The items were seized and taken to the police station.

Meanwhile, as a result of the find, two men were taken into custody; however, they were subsequently released pending further investigations.
