Accident victims remain in ICU, with their families expected on island this week; no charges laid, so far, against driver

The condition of the two American University of Antigua (AUA) medical students remains the same, sources say, while their families are expected to arrive here before the end of the week.

Reports say the 19-year-old female from Dubai and the 21-year-old male from Qatar are still on ventilators and remain in the Intensive Care Unit of the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.

The young woman spent hours in surgery on Sunday, October 23, but doctors were unable to save one of her arms, which was partially severed in a traffic accident; therefore, it was amputated.

According to reports, the man who allegedly struck the two students drove away from the scene, but later returned in the company of his lawyer while police officers were conducting investigations.

While earlier reports said the 45-year-old male would be charged with leaving the scene of an accident, today, October 25, as far as REAL News could determine, no charges have been laid, so far.
