A polyclinic is in order for St. John’s Rural West, Lewis says, since Grays Farm clinic cannot meet needs of all residents

Senator Richard Lewis, the United Progressive Party (UPP) Candidate for St. John’s Rural West, wants to see the Grays Farm clinic upgraded to a polyclinic in order to better serve residents and since there is space for such expansion.

Lewis says the existing facility was constructed under the Baldwin Spencer Administration, so that persons falling ill did not always have to travel to the main hospital. However, he says, it cannot provide all the services required by constituents.

A dental clinic and a pharmacy, among other medical services, were being operated from that site. But Senator Lewis says the current authorities have not properly maintained the facility, which is often in need of cleaning supplies – many of which he has had to purchase and donate to the nurses.

Lewis notes that polyclinics have been constructed in Villa and in Glanvilles; and due to the size of the Rural West constituency, he says, it would be appropriate to put one in place to serve its communities.
