Beazer alleges that local contractors on PLH project are being replaced by foreign workers, which is bad for nation building

Former Barbudan Senator Atkinson Beazer is making claims that the Peace Love and Happiness (PLH) developers are letting go local contractors and hiring employees from far and wide, instead.

In the recent past, the Browne Administration has boasted about the number of Antiguans, Barbudans and other residents employed with the project. Beazer confirms that the employment numbers were, indeed, significant – but only at menial levels.

Recently, however, Beazer says he has been getting reports that dismissed Barbudan contractors are being replaced by foreign workers. Even the Caribbean brothers are being replaced, Beazer claims.

Beazer says that replacing local contractors with foreign workers does not make for good relations or for the building of a nation.

He says Caribbean people must be treated better, since they also have the qualifications or the know-how to do the work.

The former senator says that, in most cases, persons are brought in because their labour is cheaper.
