Family members confirm that victim of Friars Hill Road accident is, indeed, missing Yorks woman, ‘Dolly’ Barton

Family members have confirmed that the woman who was fatally struck by a vehicle on the Friars Hill Road, early Sunday morning, September 4, is Greta Barton, the Yorks Village woman who was reported missing.

Barton, who was popularly known as “Dolly,” became the country’s latest road fatality and the second woman to lose her life on that roadway this year.

Her body was identified by relatives today, September 5, at the funeral home to which the remains were removed.

One of her nieces says that waiting for confirmation was very stressful. Sunday was one of the longest nights of her life, she says, as the family waited for the funeral home to be opened on Monday morning.

Reports are that Barton, 85, was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. She went missing from home on Saturday night and her family mounted a search for her.

Apparently, she was walking on the Friars Hill Road at about 3:20 a.m. on Sunday when she was struck by a vehicle traveling from south to north.

The Police are still investigating the circumstances that led to the accident.

Many people have taken to social media to relay their condolences to the family on the tragic passing of Barton, who was said to have been well-liked, spirited and friendly.
