Alfred Athill nudges competitor aside to cop Pharmacist of the Year 2022 award and credits his work with COVID mitigation

Alfred Athill, the Director of Pharmaceutical Services, has claimed the top award this year from the Caribbean Association of Pharmacists (CAP).

Athill has been declared Pharmacist of the Year 2022 and won the prestigious title above one other nominee from Dominica.

The CAP selected Athill for his outstanding contributions to the profession of pharmacy and Caribbean society, during its 42nd Conference, held in Guyana, from August 10 to 14.

For copping the award, Athill received a plaque donated by Massy Distribution-Guyana; a three-night stay at the succeeding conference, donated by Smith Robinson & Co Ltd. of Trinidad and Tobago; and a book award.

Dwight Hudson accepted on Athill’s behalf since he was in attendance at the conference.

Speaking about the recognition, Athill says, “It is a delight to be awarded the Pharmacist of the Year by CAP….”

Athill says it gives recognition to the work he has been doing, not only in 2022, but in the past. He says that for this year, it is a culmination of the work that would have been done specifically as it relates to COVID-19.

“The recognition would have also been triggered by my interaction with the other pharmacists from around the region, especially as it relates to COVID-19 mitigation; not only in Antigua and Barbuda but the rest of the Caribbean,” he says.
