Barnes Hill man found with marijuana in suitcase on arrival is fined $24,000 after pleading guilty to drug possession

Glenroy Kareen Cassim Herbert of Barnes Hill was fined $24,000 on a drug-possession charge when he appeared in the St. John’s Magistrates Court on Monday, August 15.

Herbert, 35, who pleaded guilty to possession of 1½ lbs of cannabis, has one month to pay the fine, or he will face prison time.

He was also charged with importation of the illegal drug, which carries an estimated street value of $12,000. 

The Police arrested and charged Herbert on Sunday, August 14, after he arrived from the United States on Saturday afternoon, August 13, on a United Airlines flight from Newark, New Jersey.

He was reportedly searched by Police and Customs Officers on duty at the Airport, and a vacuum-sealed package containing the Class-B drug was found in his suitcase.

The Barnes Hill man was detained and taken into custody.
