Carnival Minister taken to task by deFreitas, who complains that Carnival 2022 has been stripped of all cultural attributes

Franz deFreitas, the United Progressive Party (UPP) Candidate for St. John’s City South, is disappointed at the line-up of events for this year’s Carnival celebrations.

The festival was on a two-year hiatus, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic; and now that it is returning, several popular and anticipated events have been cut from the slate.

In particular, deFreitas is taking to task Michael Browne, the Minister responsible for the festival, over the failure to include a Panorama competition in this year’s schedule.

The UPP Candidate says that Minister Browne has displayed a lack of leadership skills in the execution of his duties.

Further, agreeing with the criticism of many residents, deFreitas says this year’s festival appears to be only about jump and wine, and the usual cultural attributes to which people are accustomed will be absent.
