The Police have confirmed that a 38-year-old Villa man is in their custody, assisting with investigations into the country’s latest homicide.

The killing of 36-year-old Christopher Smithers of Friars Hill Development – a well-known Xtreme Fitness Gym trainer – is the second homicide for 2022.

It is reported that he and the suspect were involved in an altercation, during which the suspect allegedly armed himself with a sharp object to stab the deceased.

The Villa man was taken into custody shortly after the incident.

One media entity is reporting that the suspect might be suffering from mental issues or is a vagrant.

According to the lawmen, they are in the process of interviewing a number of people who might be able to assist them further in their investigations.

The incident occurred on St. John’s Street in the vicinity of Pita Pocket at around 6:23 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1.
