Trade Minister Greene and former Finance Minister Lovell are at odds on how to address rising cost of living

Paul Chet Greene, Minister of Trade, is disputing suggestions made by former Finance Minister Harold Lovell that much can be done to reduce the cost of living in Antigua & Barbuda.

While Lovell agrees that the spike is not the fault of local suppliers, and that the costs are largely imported, he also believes that the Government cannot adopt a lie-down-and-die attitude, either.

But, just as Finance Minister Gaston Browne sought to do in his Budget Presentation, Greene places the blame squarely on the COVID-19 pandemic, shortened production chains, and sick workers.

Meanwhile, Lovell – the Political Leader of the United Progressive Party – shares a different view and offers ways to tackle the mounting food prices.
