Police release details of vehicular accident that claimed the life of Roman Hill cyclist

The victim of this year’s second fatal accident has been identified as Azorae Pennant of Roman Hill.  He died at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Center, after a traffic collision on Tyrells Main Road, Wednesday evening.

According to a police report published today, January 27, the 16 year-old was cycling, from South to North along the road, while the driver of A43605, a silver Honda CRV, and C744, a blue Toyota Hilux, were travelling in the opposite direction.

Reportedly, the driver of the jeep was in the process of making a right turn when Pennant swerved East to avoid a collision.  However, he collided with the back of the jeep and lost control.   The youth was thrown from the bike and into the pathway of the pickup – which reportedly ran him over, earlier reports said.

Pennant sustained severe injuries to his body and was transported by the Emergency Medical Services to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Further investgations are ongoing, but the Police have put both drivers on notice of intended prosecution, the press statement says.
