Consumer Affairs officer reminds shoppers that not all items are eligible for ABST reduction

Joanne Peters, Press Officer at the Prices and Consumer Affairs Division, says that not all goods are subject to the 15 percent Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax (ABST); therefore, they would not be eligible for the 10 percent reduction during the annual Christmas sales.

This past Friday began the first of two ABST-reduced weekends, with the other being set for December 17-18.

Peters says that, from year to year, consumers have to be reminded that not all items attract ABST and, therefore, would not be eligible for the reduction since they are zero rated.

She says, as well, that the reduction applies to goods only and not  to services, and that all this information is contained in the Division’s Christmas newsletter, titled “Budget and Spend Wisely.”
